Cycling clothing has undergone a constant evolution. The “anarchist disorder” of the dawn, from the end of the 19th century to the first post-war period, was only standardised in the 1920s, with the massive sponsorship of cycling houses. The creation of many teams by industries has led to the creation of a comfortable and suitable jersey model to cope with the entire season. In order to replace the bulky and annoying bags hanging on the handlebars, the first pockets on the chest appeared, followed soon by those on the back. The colours and graphics became a recognizable element of the team even before the brand was written.

Cycling clothing is at the cutting edge, comfortable for athletes and effective for the sponsor, so cyclists’ jerseys are adopted, without pockets, even by motorcyclists and motorists who venture into motor racing.

Among the various types of jerseys called “the Convicts of the road” (because in the early 1920s the famous French journalist Albert Londres so-named the runners participating in the Tour de France) there are those with a high collar and side closure with buttons adopted by the teams that wrote the history of cycling. There are also the yellow Automoto jersey – worn by Bottecchia – and the particular world champion jersey by Alfredo Binda, with the “colours of the rainbow” wrapping the chest and the colours of the Italian flag on the sleeves, to reiterate that the champion from Varese is simultaneously also the champion of Italy.

Among the proposals there is also a “gem” for authentic cycling enthusiasts: the Italian champion jersey sported by Giovanni Cuniolo in the first decade of the last century, with the vertical tricolor band.
